Botic van de Zandschulp and Tallon Griekenpoor took the singles victories for the Netherlands against the United States on Saturday and secured the Dutch team first place in Group D with a perfect 3-0 record.

Van de Zandschulp, who competed in Glasgow, scored his third singles win in as many ties with a 6-4, 7-6 (3) result against world number 13, Taylor Fritz. The Dutchman broke in the ninth game of the opening set before serving it out and breaking through to open set two. Fritz would equalize in the second, but his comeback bid ended in the tie-break.

“We had a great week together,” said Van de Zandschulp afterwards. “Not everyone expected us to be number 1, but we played great tennis. I played at a very good level this week. The last few months I struggled to find my level and I think it will come back.”

The 26-year-old’s victory equalized for the Netherlands, after Greekpoor’s 7-5, 7-6(3) win over Tommy Paul opened the game on Saturday. Greek track recorded two singles wins in three matches in Group D. In the dead doubles, Rajeev Ram and Jack Sock put Team USA on the board with a 4-6, 7-6(3), 6-4 win against Wesley Koolhof and Matwe middle-market.

Despite the defeat, the United States advanced to the quarterfinals with a 2-1 record, good enough for second place in the group.

Coric, Gojo keep Croatian hopes alive with victory over Argentina
Borna Coric and Borna Gojo won in singles against Argentina on Saturday to round out Croatia’s record 2-1 with another Group A draw to play on Sunday. After Gojo defeated Sebastian Baez 6-1, 3-6, 6-3, Cincinnati champion Coric scored a 6-4, 7-6 (6) win against Francisco Cerundolo to take the win.

Nikola Mektic and Mate Pavic secured a clean sweep for the Croats with a 6-2, 7-5 doubles win against Maximo Gonzalez and Horacio Zeballos.

Croatia are now second in Group A 2-1, with a match record of 5-4. If Sweden (currently 1-1, with a match record of 3-3) beats group leader Italy (2-0, 5-1) on Sunday, it would lead to a tie at the top of the group, leaving tie-break scenarios determining which two teams go through to the quarterfinals.

Canada makes progress despite defeat to Serbia
A day after beating world No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz in a Team Canada win against Spain, Felix Auger-Aliassime took his country’s place in the quarter-finals with a 6-3, 6-4 win against Miomir Kecmanovic .

Serbian Laslo Djere defeated Gabriel Diallo in the opening singles match before Serbia claimed the double – and the draw – via early retirement.

Both Canada and Serbia finish 2-1 in Group B, but Canada’s superior 5-4 match record ensures a top two finish in Valencia. If Spain wins against South Korea on Sunday, the host country would advance as group winner and knock Serbia out of the final. Spain would be eliminated with a loss.

France tops Belgium for consolation victory

Richard Gasquet earned France a single point with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Michael Geerts, before David Goffin put Belgium on the board with a 6-3, 5-7, 6-3 decision against Benjamin Bonzi.
