Canton change rejected: why a Ukrainian mother has to commute almost four hours a day
The mother of two lives in the canton of Lucerne and works in a pharmaceutical company in Basel. But the canton of Basel-Stadt refuses to let the Ukrainian move to Basel. She loses almost four hours a day commuting and rarely sees her children during the weekdays. How could it come to this?
She has two university degrees in economics and psychology. The Ukrainian passed her probationary period in the administration of a pharmaceutical company in Basel with flying colors and is allowed to stay on for a longer period of time. Her employer would even help her find an apartment in Basel. But the canton of Basel-Stadt is opposed. The refugee is not allowed to move from Oberkirch in the canton of Lucerne to the canton of Basel-Stadt – although she is financially independent thanks to a 100 percent job.
