Indian grappler Divya Kakran took a bronze medal in the Women’s Freestyle 68kg in the ongoing 2022 Commonwealth Games after beating Tonga’s Tiger Lily Cocker Lemalie here at Coventry Arena Wrestling Mat B on Friday. Kakran defeated Lemalie 2-0 in the bronze medal match. Kakran took the medal in just 26 seconds via Victory by Fall. The fifth wrestling medal of the day expands the medal tally to 25 for India in Birmingham 2022.
The Indian grappler was in good form in this match. Kakran managed to hold his own and kept her opponent at bay with a bronze medal.
It was a one sided affair with Kakran showing off her wrestling skills at its best to defeat Lemalie through the fall.
Previously, Indian star wrestler Bajrang Punia won a gold medal for India after winning the final against Canada’s Lachlan Mcneil in the men’s 65 kg.
Deepak Punia triumphed over Muhammad Inam of Pakistan, a 3-0 victory on points, in the men’s 86kg freestyle final to win the gold medal.
Anshu Malik had to settle for the silver medal in the women’s 57kg freestyle wrestling event at the 2022 Commonwealth Games after losing to Odunayo Folasade Adekuoroye of Nigeria.
Commonwealth Games 2022 started on July 28 in Birmingham and will last until August 8.
