Everton vs Chelsea LIVE: Premier League Team News, Lineups & More

Premier League: five essential picks for your fantasy squad

Follow live coverage as Everton hosts Chelsea during the opening weekend of the 2022/23 Premier League season.

The Toffees narrowly avoided the drop from a year ago and will certainly be desperate to kick-start the new campaign to the fore to quell any talk of similar concerns this time around. Thomas Tuchel’s Blues had a more positive season overall, although two defeats to Liverpool in the Carabao and FA Cup finals left them without silverware.

The new squad of former Chelsea manager Frank Lampard is shocked by the news that Dominic Calvert-Lewin will miss about “six weeks” due to a knee injury sustained in training. With Solomon Rondon also out due to a suspension from last season, it means Demarai Gray will take the lead. Raheem Sterling and Kalidou Koulibaly make their debuts for the visitors, while Marc Cucurella also signed in time for the squad, although Tuchel has only named him on the bench when Ben Chilwell fills in on the left wing.

Thomas Tuchel: No one wants to wear ‘cursed’ Chelsea number nine shirt

Thomas Tuchel has maintained that Chelsea did not intentionally release the number nine shirt with a view to a future new signing.

Chelsea’s number nine remains vacant following Romelu Lukaku’s return to Inter Milan on loan, and Tuchel said none of the current Blues stars wanted to take over the shirt.

The Stamford Bridge club will continue to look at adding a striker to their ranks this summer, with Barcelona’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang remaining under consideration.

The last six Chelsea stars to wear the nine shirt have fought for lasting impact in West London, prompting Tuchel to joke that the Blues’ central standout number is still out of luck.

“It’s cursed, it’s cursed, people tell me it’s cursed!” Tuchel joked.

Barcelona signs deal for Chelsea fullback Marcos Alonso

Barcelona now expect to complete the signing of Chelsea left-back Marcos Alonso.

Marc Cucurella’s £62million arrival at Chelsea has paved the way for Alonso to make the return to Spain he’d been longing for for months.

Alonso is understood to want to return to his native Spain to be closer to his family, and his impending move will bring the curtain down after six years in West London.

Chelsea are said to have understood Alonso’s desire to return to Spain and have long been in talks with Barcelona over a deal.

Everton completes signing of Lille midfielder Amadou Onana

Everton have reached a £33.7m deal to sign Lille midfielder Amadou Onana.

It is clear that the 20-year-old Belgium international will undergo a medical check-up before signing a five-year contract.

He will likely sit in the stands at Goodison Park to watch Saturday’s home game against Chelsea.

Onana will provide a much-needed option in midfield, with an area manager Frank Lampard looking to bolster himself further with a deal to bring former Toffees player Idrissa Gana Gueye back from Paris St Germain.

Frank Lampard admits Everton survives among ‘most beautiful things in my life’

Frank Lampard believes Everton’s dramatic escape from relegation was one of the “greatest things” that ever happened to him and said he enjoyed the stress of upholding them.

Everton stayed in their final home game of last season as, after trailing 2-0 at halftime against Crystal Palace, they recovered to win 3-2, leading to scenes after the final whistle when Lampard bounced up and down on the roof of an executive box.

On Saturday, he will face his former club Chelsea for the second time since his January 2021 dismissal and said he did a lot of soul-searching in a year out of the game before being hired at Goodison Park.

Lampard sent Chelsea to fourth place and the FA Cup final in his only full season in charge. He blamed himself for some things and considered others with satisfaction while admitting that he put pressure on himself to succeed at Stamford Bridge.

Thomas Tuchel responds to Gary Neville’s criticism of Chelsea’s ‘panic’ transfer window

Thomas Tuchel has defended Chelsea owner Todd Boehly after Gary Neville accused him of being “panic” in the summer transfer window.

The Blues have been big players in the market so far with the American, who has taken on the role of sporting director at the club, who are looking to reshape the squad at Stamford Bridge.

Marc Cucurella has become the latest new face through the door, joining a deal believed to be worth £62m from Brighton.

He follows the likes of Raheem Sterling, Kalidou Koulibaly and Carney Chukwuemeka as they make the move to West London in a busy off-season.

Sky Sports pundit Neville was critical of some of the decisions made recently, claiming that Boehly was “a bit of a wanderer” and “a little bit panicky”.

Everton vs Chelsea latest news

About half an hour to team news. Sterling and Koulibaly will be the pair likely to make an immediate debut, but Thomas Tuchel certainly has plenty of options to choose from. The midfield will be an interesting roster, though, and the Blues are definitely looking to strengthen there before the window closes.

Will they eventually land Frenkie de Jong?
