After finishing second in the 2022 Asian Cup, Team Pakistan is all set for the upcoming T20 World Cup in Australia in October. Before flying to Australia, the Babar Azam-led squad will face England in a home series. On Thursday, the Pakistan Cricket Board announced a 15-man squad that will fly to Australia for the World Cup. The squad marked the return of aaspacer Shaheen Afridi after being banned from the Asian Cup due to a knee injury. Shaheen replaced Hasan Ali and veteran Shoaib Malik was also excluded from the squad.
However, former Pakistani spinner Saeed Ajmal expressed disappointment at the inclusion of wicketkeeper batter Mohammad Haris as a reserved player in the squad. In a video posted to his YouTube channel, Ajmal stated that Haris has found his place in the squad as he is the “favourite choice” of PCB chairman Ramiz Raja.
“Mohammad Haris was selected because he is Ramiz Raja’s choice, he is his favourite. Ramiz Raja likes him, that’s why they kept him. If you want to go on performance, Sarfaraz (Ahmed) has performed well in the (domestic) T20s. You had keep him in the reserves,” Ajmal said.
Pakistan lost to Sri Lanka by 23 runs in the top Asia Cup match at the Dubai International Stadium. In September, Pakistan will play a seven-game T20I series at home against England.
Speaking of the World Cup, Pakistan will face their arch-rival India on October 23.
