Wellington Firebirds all-rounder Rachin Ravindra became the youngest New Zealand Test debutant since Ish Sodhi (Bangladesh, 2013), when New Zealand was invited to take part in the first Test against India in Kanpur. The 22-year-old will wear test cap number 282 and bat at seven on a strong bowling team with Ajaz Patel, Will Somerville and point guard Tim Southee and Kyle Jamieson. Will Young will open the baton in the absence of injured Devon Conway. The match is the first for the BLACKCAPS in the new round of the ICC World Trials Championship.
In the first test, Ajinkya Rahane will lead India in the absence of regular skipper Virat Kohli and with Rahul now absent, it will be Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara who will take up the challenge in the middle order.
