There is ‘no leak’ against Indian batting slumps every now and then, captain Virat Kohli said on Friday after his team lost a 1-0 lead and a golden opportunity to script a first victory in the Test Series in South Africa. Aside from the batters’ failures, Kohli cited inconsistency, lack of application, lack of focus and their inability to capture critical moments as the reasons for the team’s loss in all three games. The hosts won 2-1.
“The batter needs to be examined, you can’t run away. Collapsing every now and then is not a good thing,” Kohli said at the post-game presentation ceremony after Africa South won by seven wickets in the third round. Test here.
“No excuses there. It’s really disappointing for sure. We know how far we’ve come as a team. People expect us to beat South Africa. in South Africa is a testament to how far we’ve come. We haven’t, it’s reality, accept it and come back as better cricketers. ” India won the series opener at Centurion by 113 points, but surprisingly gave in to an inexperienced South African team in the remaining two games, their hitters dropping them on more than one occasion.
Kohli, however, praised his opponents for the way they organized the turnaround, a day after losing his temper over a DRS decision.
“We had a great first game, but South Africa did very well. In both tests they won, they were clinical with the ball in the tough times. Lack of focus took a toll on us. key moments and they captured those moments; South Africa absolutely deserved winners in the end. ” The All-Star Indian team therefore failed to add to their incredible triumph in Australia last year, and Kohli attributed it to their inability to capture key moments and capitalize on momentum.
“Like I said, one of the challenges we’ve faced while touring overseas is making sure we capitalize on the momentum, when we did, we won tests in the world. outside our home. When we didn’t, they cost us dearly. ” Speaking of areas that need immediate attention and where they lost to the Proteas, Kohli said: “I’ve had a few meltdowns that cost us important moments and tryouts. It’s batting, I don’t can identify no other aspect.
“People are talking about pace and rebound, given their height they were able to shoot a lot more at the wickets in all three tests. They applied pressure long enough that we made mistakes. It’s the understanding of the terms for them that they know very well. ”Kohli was impressed with the centuries of KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant, seeing them as the positive points of the series.
I threw up the challenge after the first game and the guys replied: Elgar
South Africa captain Dean Elgar said his team did not give up despite the significant loss in the First Test. “I think it’s gonna sink in a day or two, maybe tonight. I couldn’t be more proud of the group. The guys responded brilliantly. After the first loss I had a lot of hope knowing that we can still win that.
“I asked the players to respond in a better nature, in a better way and they responded brilliantly. Challenging your players in the squad, needs character to stand up.” Elgar praised his inexperienced bowling attack which continued to pose tough questions to Indian hitters.
“The way our bowling unit delivered throughout the series is brilliant. I challenged after the first game and the guys responded brilliantly.
“It’s unreal how a group that doesn’t have the directory or the names can come together into one. If you want to perform at a high performance level, you have to have tough discussions. don’t like it, it’s up to them to take care of it.
“I have an old school mentality with a new school touch. I also challenged the senior players, it’s good to see them come in and deliver them. I would like to think I gave it to us. the best message to get us out and perform.
