The ruling Liberal Democratic Party will release an updated list of members who have had ties to the controversial Unification Church, Secretary General Toshimitsu Motegi said Tuesday.
Ties between the church and LDP have come into focus after former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe was gunned down during an election rally. The suspected killer blamed Abe for supporting the church, which he said bankrupted his mother. The church has declined to comment on its donations and has also said it will no longer accept donations that cause financial difficulties.
