Japan plans to allow more regional airports to accept foreign passengers, Prime Minister Fumio Kishida said on Tuesday, as the country gradually eases strict border controls put in place in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The government will also unveil COVID-era inbound tourism guidelines for the travel industry on June 7, Kishida said, three days before it resumes accepting tourists from overseas, initially targeting those who participate in package tours with guides and fixed routes.
