Police find no offense after allegation against Scots College staff member


Wellington Scots College School has confirmed it has received an allegation of inappropriate behavior from a non-teaching staff member. The staff member denies the allegation.

Police confirmed they received a report from a parent of a Scots College student regarding the allegation, but concluded there was no criminal offense and said they would take no further action .

“The staff member involved vehemently denies the allegation,” Scots College principal Graeme Yule said.

The college was treating the complaint very seriously and Scots College had offered full cooperation, Yule said.

Scots College Board chairman Steve McJorrow said it was important that complaints were taken seriously.

“Often, people who experience and report abuse of any kind have their complaints immediately dismissed or have their experiences diminished. This discourages people from coming forward.

“We need to take these complaints seriously so people can get the care and support they need,” McJorrow said.

Scots College said it would not comment further.

Scots College is a day and boarding school with primary, middle and senior schools teaching students in grades one through thirteen.
