Portugal will participate in the World Cup in Qatar for the sixth time in a row later this year.

In qualifiers they finished second in Group A, so they had to go through the play-off path. Thanks to a brace from Bruno Fernandes, they were able to see North Macedonia and book their place in Qatar.

Head coach Fernando Santos has been in charge since 2014. At Euro 2016, he led Portugal to victory after beating host nation France to lift the trophy for the first time. In the last edition of the World Cup and European Championship, their tournament ended in the last 16 leg.

Next week they play Nations League games against the Czech Republic and Spain and on November 17 a warm-up against Nigeria.

World Cup squads are usually announced about six weeks before the World Cup starts. This year the World Cup will take place from November 21 to December 18.

Cristiano Ronaldo will almost certainly participate in his last World Cup. The all-time leading international goalscorer will look to add the World Cup to his trophies horde.
