Hosts from Sri Lanka beat the West Indies by 187 points in the first cricket test in Galle on Thursday. Pursuing a goal of 348, the West Indies were eliminated for 160 before tea on the last day. Sri Lanka secured a 156-point lead in the first set and gave the visitors a record 348 wins at Galle International Stadium. Turns 52 for six at the end of day four, the West Indies hung on in the opening session but collapsed after lunch. Lasith Embuldeniya finished with a five wicket run while Ramesh Mendis completed it well with four scalps.
Nkrumah Bonner was undefeated on 68 for Tourists – one of only three West Indies batsmen to hit double the numbers in their second inning, the others being Joshua Da Silva, who made 54, and Rahkeem Cornwall with 13.
The second Test starts on Monday, also in Galle.
