Tom Moody, the former Sunrisers Hyderabad coach, resigned from his position as director of Cricket at Sri Lanka on Tuesday. The Sri Lanka Cricket executive committee agreed with Tom Moody, who acted as Cricket’s director, to terminate his contract immediately. The Sri Lankan Cricket (SLC) Executive Committee, after much deliberation, was of the opinion that Tom Moody’s services are no longer needed as he reported directly to the Technical Advisory Committee, which no longer exists.
Moody’s appointment as Director of Cricket, effective March 1, 2021, was made on the basis of a recommendation from the Sri Lankan Cricket Technical Advisory Committee (SLC).
Sri Lanka Cricket, while thanking Tom for his contribution to the game of cricket in Sri Lanka during his tenure, wished him the best for his future endeavours.
Speaking at a press conference, the former Aussie player said it has been a pleasure to work with the SLC and is proud of the progress he has made with the team.
“It has been a privilege to serve SLC again and I am proud of what I was able to achieve during my term under the guidance of the Technical Advisory Committee,” said Moody.
The Sri Lankan cricket team recently defied all odds and won the 2022 Asia Cup by beating Pakistan in the final.
A brilliant half-century of Bhanuka Rajapaksa and fiery spells from spinner Wanindu Hasaranga and pacer Pramod Madushan helped Sri Lanka secure its sixth Asia Cup title by beating Pakistan by 24 runs in the final in Dubai.
After the team returned to their country, hundreds of fans flooded the city streets as Sri Lanka staged a victory parade in an open-top bus to celebrate their title win in a memorable 2022 Asia Cup.
The players also engaged with the audience and expressed their gratitude for their overwhelming support during the crisis in the country.
