Tata Motors is preparing to launch the Tiago and Tigor CNG in India on January 19 and the new models will help the automaker tap into a potential new market. Considering the sharp rise in fuel prices last year, people are looking for alternatives to gasoline and diesel vehicles and CNG has been in high demand lately, especially in metropolitan cities. Even the government has given greater impetus to CNG fuel. Here’s what we know so far about the upcoming Tata Tiago and Tigor CNG.

The Tata Tiago and Tigor CNG will be based on their standard petrol models. Both models will be identical to their facelifted petrol derivatives, save for the CNG badging.

List of identical features

The Tata Tiago CNG will also share creature comforts with its gasoline-powered derivative.

The Tata Tiago and Tigor CNG are expected to come in multiple variants and are therefore likely to share the feature list with the respective variants of their standard derivatives. So we expect to see creature comforts like power mirrors and the JBL-Harmon sound system in the top-end variants as well as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone connectivity options.

Same engine options

In terms of powertrain options, we don’t expect any changes. The models are powered by a 1.2-litre Revotron petrol engine tuned to produce 85hp and 113Nm of peak torque. That said, we can expect a slight drop in horsepower figures given the CNG conversion. Transmission duties are likely to be performed by a standard five-speed manual gearbox.
