Three ways to prepare for Destiny 2’s Solar 3.0 coming now

Destiny 2 is about to reveal what its next 3.0 item will be when Season 17 arrives and… it’s solar. Just look…it’s solar, I’m 99.9% sure. With that assumption, I think you can start preparing for the new season in a few different ways, although we don’t know the exact Aspect/Fragment system that will arrive with Solar 3.0.

That’s what I’m doing as I start putting my characters together for next season in the final week here:

Remember what is improved

Destiny 2 brings many changes to the sandbox, including some notable archetypes and exotic changes. Sentry guns take a big buff to damage from bosses, and I’ve got an eye on solar ones like Xenophage and Heir Apparent in particular, as those will no doubt synergize with other parts of the build.

Elsewhere, some weapons are getting features that will pair well with the new Solar 3.0 triggers. Prometheus Lens will take a real burn, in addition to a massive Trace Rifle buff that comes against Majors and Bosses and receives more ammo. I also think they will have anti champion mods this season. Skyburner’s Oath is getting its second full overhaul and will also apply burn now. And don’t forget to keep in mind other Exotic blasts/burns that already exist like Polaris Lance, Ticuu’s Divination, and Sunshot.

Choose your favorite Sun Exotic armor

Although yes, I’m sure there will probably be at least one or two new Solar Exotics across all three classes this season, even if that’s true, you can’t get them right away and you’ll need a starting construct. As such, it stands to reason that you should choose your favorite Solar Exotic and build around that to some extent. Here is what I do:

Warlock: Chorus of Dawn – Dawn takes more damage, burning effects last longer, burning targets reload melee

Hunter: Thorn of Young Ahamkara – Improved Tripmine damage, radius and recharge

Titan: (lots of options here but) The Path of Burning Steps – Solar kills grant bonus weapon damage

Start construction of a solar elemental well

At this point, it’s pretty clear that most PvE builds will be based on elemental wells, as Bungie continues to expand and nerf Charged with Light and Warmind Cells. Barring some crazy new mods this season, I think it’s not bad to start with the basics of a solar elemental well build, which includes mods where the wells heal you and improve the energy recharge of the grenade. Obviously once we know the full extent of solar 3.0 we can move a few pieces around but again no harm in getting started especially when combined with the other two categories here you’ll have a build of killer on your hands no matter what solar 3.0 looks like, right from the start of the season.
