The U.S. Supreme Court on Tuesday blocked a Texas law that bars big social media companies from banning or censoring users based on their “viewpoint,” siding with two groups in the tech industry who argued that the Republican-backed measure would turn the platforms into “the vilest expression paradise imaginable.”
Judges granted a request by NetChoice and the Computer & Communications Industry Association, which count Facebook, Twitter and YouTube among their members, to block the law while the litigation continues after a lower court left it come into force on May 11.
