Week 2 NFL Betting Guide: Tom Brady’s Kryptonite & Bengals Efficiency Creates Some Winning Chances

We split our two picks this past weekend as the pair of games we chose to hone in ended up delivering two of the most surprising results of Week 1. Not only did the Chicago Bears hold their own against Trey Lance and the San Francisco 49ers, but they managed to take a win as +7 dogs, easily covering the line for our first winner of the season.

However, our gains were erased when Russell Wilson showed up flat for his Denver Bronco debut. mr. Unlimited turned out to be Mr. Unreliable, as his former team narrowly took the win under the Monday Night lights.

Now that we have the chance to see all of the league’s 32 teams in action, Week 2 allows us to view the NFL odds board with a little more clarity. Once again, we highlight a few games that we believe offer the strongest bet value on the board for the weekend, as we aim to put ourselves back in the black in week 3.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers (-2.5) vs. New Orleans Saints

Since moving to Tampa Bay, Tom Brady has won 0-4 against his NFC South rivals, but odds makers give the Buccaneers a slight edge here on the road in New Orleans.

The Saints’ defense has proven to be the closest to kryptonite Brady has faced late in his career, holding the Tampa Bay quarterback to six passing touchdowns and giving up eight interceptions in the four losses. Heavy defensive pressure also saw him fired 13 times in these meetings.

Another insult was that Brady could find himself without his three favorite targets as Mike Evans, Chris Godwin and Julio Jones were all cited as questionable after missing practice with injuries this week. With Leonard Fournette also suffering from a hamstring injury, the Buccaneers won’t have their leading rusher at full throttle.

New Orleans’ Jameis Winston went 23-for-34 for 269 yards and threw for a pair of touchdowns in last week’s narrow win over the Falcons. Winston also managed to use some of his receivers, spreading the ball around and keeping Atlanta’s defense sharp.

Even after losing Alvin Kamara early in the game, the Saints’ attack proved they could tweak the game plan and earn meters through the air. However, the fact that they had to concede 26 points to the Falcons attack was the most concerning.

The New Orleans defense has held up well historically and we expect this unit to outperform in their Week 2 outing against a busted division rival.

Bet New Orleans at +2.5, as the Saints send Brady home again with a loss.

Cincinnati Bengals (-6.5) vs. Dallas Cowboys

We go from a pair of undefeated teams to a match-up between squads looking for their first win of the season.

The Dallas Cowboys suffered more than one loss last weekend when quarterback Dak Prescott went down with a broken thumb. The Cowboys are now looking to Cooper Rush, who will only make his second professional start, to carry the burden.

In his only pro start last season, Rush threw 325 yards and a pair of touchdowns in a win over the Vikings, and it’s worth noting that his Cowboys are an impressive 6-1 ATS after taking a loss.

Cincinnati should have entered this game 1-0, but five Joe Burrow turns left the door open for Pittsburgh to steal Week 1’s win. This was extremely unusual for this offense as Burrow averaged less than one turnover per game last season.

A more conservative approach to the Bengals, coupled with a new face under the center of Dallas, lined up next to a running back that went well beyond his first cries of “Under.” However, the game’s total now stands at 41.5 after opening at 50.5. The value is pretty much staked at this point, so bettors should tighten the spread if they want to find another value here.

Where one could argue that the -6.5 demand is a serious market overreaction to Dak Prescott’s plight, we have a Bengals team that was just a few games away from a Super Bowl title last season, fresh off an opening loss. that can be attributed to sloppy play.

The Bengals come out here and take a statement win, covering the -6.5 in the process. Rush promises something, but in the end the team won’t be able to keep up with the Bengals if they can limit their turnover.
