Will Master Chief have a baby with a Covenant spy on the TV show “Halo”?

Well, here’s a title I never thought I’d write, and yet with the events of episode 8 of last week’s Halo show, it’s uh, not out of the realm of possibility. And given the direction the series is taking, I wouldn’t pass up the Paramount Plus show to take such an absurd turn. We have already covered almost everything.

To recap, the UNSC has captured a young human woman named Makee who has been raised by the Covenant all her life and hates humanity. Like Master Chief, she has the special power to interact with ancient artifacts, which has created a bond between them now that they have met in person.

That bond turns into literal romance, and last week brought us a sex scene where Master Chief (presumably losing his virginity, due to how the Spartan program works) hooks up with his uh, POW in his holding cell . Consensually, but… still. It’s weird on about ten different levels. Oh and Cortana and probably Halsey are watching what’s going on.

What’s on my mind is…why? Why do this? There could easily have been a case where Master Chief and Makee have a connection and he convinces her to turn her back on the Covenant and help humanity without have sex with her?

I guess you could say it was to show her full realization of human emotion, now with her delete chip removed, or to teach spying Cortana about human love (lust?). But I now fear that the reason for the sex scene is that Master Chief could have gotten Makee pregnant, which would turn into a season 2 plot point. Yes, Spartans are supposed to be sterile, and yet we we’re already breaking all the Spartan rules on this show, so who knows.

Why do I think this might be where it’s going? A few reasons.

First of all, I’ve seen this happen on TV before. I was particularly struck in The Walking Dead when, out of nowhere, the show decided it was time for a real sex scene between Michonne and Rick Grimes. It was good, they were a couple, it made sense. And yet the reason they showed that this scene was to later clarify that Rick got Michonne pregnant before disappearing. Call it the Chekov branch.

So I wonder if the same is happening here, plus the added complications of the Halo show. Both Master Chief and Makee have special powers that other humans don’t (again, not a thing of the games). As such, this could mean that a child produced by both could even be After special. The ultimate “chosen”.

I can also see this as the writers of the show trying to do the ultimate form of “humanizing” Master Chief with this, which they’ve been attempting all season, as what could be more “humanizing” than giving him a son or a girl? (at least in their minds). And then since Makee instantly became a villain again, I see her leaving to join the Covenant in season 2, and Master Chief will have to track her down to get her child back and save him from the Covenant.

Is it bad? Of course it’s bad! But now we’re watching a series where Master Chief has had sex with a POW and his trust in her as a result is about to lead Reach’s entire downfall. So we’re already way off the bottom, and Master Chief having a kid doesn’t seem as crazy as it once did. Well, that’s still crazy, but not for this series.

Boy, can’t wait for this final.
